There was a time in the not-too-distant past when getting married at home was not anything unusual. Today, falling back onto that trend can be a great way for couples to feel comfortable and a possible way in cutting down the costs of the wedding.
Even with these advantages, according to a recent article in the Northwest Herald, it may be easy to lose sight of what things actually end up costing. Depending on where you live, you may have to get a permit or look into noise abatement laws before holding such an event. This is especially true in cities and suburbs. Other considerations include such things as to whether or not there is enough parking available for guests and other vendors who will be a part of your wedding celebration. Then there are tables, chairs to rent, along with possibly of needing to lease a tent or other wedding fixtures as well in order to accommodate everyone gathered for the wedding.
Brigitt Earley, senior editor at Real Simple magazine suggests renting a fancy bathroom for those couples who have only one accessible bathroom. “You don’t want guests waiting in line all night, but even worse: You could encounter problems if you overload your home’s plumbing system,” she said.
It’s also good to make sure your home’s electrical system can handle the extra power requirements needed for such an event. Having a band or DJ at the reception in addition to garden lighting, appliances and other draws on power can cause circuits to overload and switch off. Earley suggests getting a professional opinion or bringing in a generator to handle the extra power demands.
If your home has natural features and landscaping, incorporate these into your wedding décor as well. Flowers don’t have to be fussy or look out of place. If you are holding a wedding at home during the summer or early fall months, there are lovely flowers including lilies, gladiolas, hollyhocks and broad-leafed greenery that can add beautiful splashes of color.
There are endless ideas for homemade crafts for wedding décor, finger foods and guest gifts that are truly one of a kind. Homemade bath soaps, scrubs or a basket that includes other goodies can be truly unique and appreciated by those in attendance and make them feel pampered and right at home.
A home wedding can be the perfect way for couples to share their special day with friends and family in a comfortable way. Putting together such an event, even if you have a long time to plan takes creativity and an attention to detail.
